Hey everyone,

I’m kicking off a brand-new case study today, and I’m pretty excited about it. This project is inspired by some strategies I’ve been studying recently, and after spending a good amount of time doing my homework, I’m confident this one has real potential.

Step 1 – Finding the Niche

The very first step in my plan was to identify a low-competition niche with decent search volume. I started by digging through Amazon’s best-seller lists and cross-referencing potential ideas with Google search data. After filtering through several possibilities, I found one that stood out.

The main keyword for this niche returns about 581,000 results on Google and gets 8,100 monthly searches. For me, that’s a sweet spot — high enough to have an audience, low enough to not be dominated by huge authority sites. That’s why I chose it.

The exact match domain was already taken, so I went for an alternative that still contained my main keyword plus the word “reviews.” That way, it’s still SEO-friendly and brandable.

Step 2 – Setting Up the Site

I grabbed a shared hosting plan, set up WordPress, and went hunting for a clean, responsive theme. I chose a free one that looked good out of the box but still gave me flexibility to tweak it to fit the niche. After a few adjustments, it was ready to go.

Step 3 – Essential Plugins

Here’s the list of plugins I installed right away to set up a solid foundation:

  • WordPress SEO – to take care of on-page optimization.
  • WP No-Bot Question – to keep spam at bay.
  • Social Share Boost – to encourage sharing on social media.
  • Contact Form 7 – so visitors can easily reach out.
  • Add Posts to Pages – for better content management.

Step 4 – Initial Content Strategy

I wanted the homepage to act as both a hub and an introduction to the niche. So, I wrote a 400-word overview article about the niche itself, weaving in internal links to my individual product reviews.

I also added three initial product reviews, each around 300 words. These reviews included the main keyword as well as relevant secondary keywords. I kept them user-friendly, with:

  • Clear product images.
  • A “Buy Now” button.
  • Social share buttons to encourage engagement.
  • Short paragraphs for easier reading.

Each image and button links directly to the Amazon products I’m promoting.

Step 5 – On-Site Enhancements

On the sidebar, I placed:

  • An Amazon product slider widget.
  • A “Latest Reviews” box.
  • A search bar to help visitors navigate quickly.

Step 6 – Starting the Backlink Process

Once the site was ready, I moved on to building some initial backlinks. For now, I’ve focused on simple but effective sources like Facebook, Pinterest, and Twitter. My next step will be to target niche-related blogs and forums to get more relevant links pointing to the site.

Step 7 – The Waiting Game

Now comes the part that every case study has — waiting to see what happens. I’m giving it a week before I check analytics and see how the site starts to rank. Of course, this is just the beginning, and I’ll be optimizing and scaling over time.

I’ll keep updating as the results roll in. Fingers crossed this one turns into a winner!
